Rituals and stereotypes play a large part in our culture and everyday life. We all have our own morning and nightly routines. We even like to stereotype people in person all the time too. Rituals and stereotypes are amplified with the advent of social media.
Rituals in social media could be something as simple as the time at which you check your Twitter or in which order you check your social media avenues. Personally, I check my Facebook, Snapchat, and Twitter in that order. More traditional rituals can also spill over into our social media. Family traditions maybe be shared, you may encourage others to participate through the use of hashtags or you may even live stream your ritual for the world to see using something like periscope.
Social media allows our life to be put under a magnifying class to the point at which we choose. Stereotyping plays a huge role in our society in every facade of life. Social Media allows us to glimpse into the life of our friends, family, and even strangers to judge everything they do. You may seek out your crush on social media and find someone totally different than what you thought you knew.
